In this video Russell Boudria, MultiCam’s Router Product Manager covers the suggested material for spoil boards, proper maintenance of the spoil boards and common tips and tricks.
What is a spoil board?
A spoil board is a removable work surface that is mounted to the top of your router table, which protects the table from damage as the router bits or knife blades cut through the material.
Why use a spoil board?
There is no perfect vacuum pump and dependable hold-down capability is crucial to all jobs, especially those that involve cutting smaller parts. You use spoil board equal to the sheet size being cut because you always want to focus pump power into the concentrated area of cutting.
Suggested material:
Fiberboard is the best material for spoil board and here are the different kinds:
- High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) – (50-65lbs per cubic ft)
- Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) – (40-46lbs per cubic ft)
- Low-Density Fiberboard (LDF) – (30-34lbs per cubic ft)
